Copyright infringement is the term used to describe any kind of work that is being copied by protected by copyright. Everyone in the industry of writing, music or even software programming is faced into this kind of situation.

Copyright infringement can also be called as piracy – a term which came from Daniel Defoe. His works had been stolen by pirates, thus, the term piracy was coined. Piracy is one of the most serious crimes, which may include stolen novels, books, literary pieces, software applications and even music.

There were even some conspiracy that piracy on music and movies are used by several terrorists to support their criminal plans and attacks. Piracy is severely growing in almost every country and has already killed a lot of record labels and movie producers.

A person may get a particular penalty or fine depending on the weight of the Copyright violation made. However, people who have been pirating products and materials for their own benefit would face a jail sentence, but with a shorter period of time compared to individuals who promote piracy in order to terrorize a country.

In some countries, even those who support piracy or those who purchase pirated works are liable for copyright infringement. This simply means that those who take advantage of buying pirated products can face a jail term depending on how much or how many pirated products have they owned or purchased.

Truth of the matter is, supporting piracy is more of deceiving your self. Pirated products may be priced cheaply than authentic items but they are proved to bear way lesser quality. Some would even say and attest that it is not even close to what authentic items have to offer.

Just think of it this way: if you are planning to purchase pirated products or software applications, just try to figure out how you would feel if you were in their shoes. How would you feel if someone would steal your work, and sell it at a cheaper price? Would you be happy if someone would steal your work, and benefit from what you have worked hard for?
